Google's latest announcement is that the Android version of its Google Maps app now automatically routes users around traffic when providing directions.
As for now, Google Maps navigation chooses the fastest route without taking current traffic conditions into account, though it considers the highways over side roads to calculate the fastest route.
But as per Google, their current algorithm analyzes the present and past traffic records on the routes to select the fastest one. So, the navigation will automatically guide you along the best route given the current traffic conditions.
It will be very interesting to check out this functionality, if Google will be able to adjust as per street events like marathons or roadside fairs or will it consider the emergency conditions or some bridges that open for some time intervals.
At present, this latest Google technology is under implementation and its not available for all the countries. Considering exceptional traffic conditions of some cities in India, it may be a major pain in Google's ass implementing it in several Asian countries.
