Obama's Silicon Valley dinner

Last Thursday, US President Brack Obama called up a dinner meet for a number of the Silicon Valley giants including Jobs and Zuckerberg. Though some of the major tech executives like IBM's Sam Palmisano were absent in the dinner meet. FYI, IBM makes 40% of the world's top 500 supercomputers. Palmisano doent need a dinner to meet President, if he needs to speak to the president, he will meet.

Obama was sitting next to the Internet Networking sensation Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and America's most innovative Apple's CEO Jobs. I hope you all are well aware of the reason. Other key invitees were Oracle's Larry Ellison and Google's Eric Schmidt who was also acting as Obama's wingman int he meeting.

Surprisingly, Microsoft was not on the invite list. Obama has already met with Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer. In fact, Ballmer has been at the White House twice this year. This Silicon Valley dinner may been more about getting some people, Jobs and Ellison in particular, to play a more active role on policy issues. Possible reason for Microsoft not being on the list.

The dinner was held at venture capitalist John Doerr's house. Why? John Doerr is to venture capital what Steven Spielberg is to movies and Obama needs his help. Doerr has been a particularly strong advocate of Obama's push for green investment. In the fight over the federal budget, Obama may be counting him.

Over all, this meet of President Obama was all about US business needs.
