A city which changed its name to Google

Topeka's capital Kansas changed its name to Google, Kansas for a month last year to woo a Google high speed internet project. Though the Mayor of Topeka was embarrassed at that moment as the city which is home of soybean fields, animal research and likes changed its name to that of a giant corporation to court its favor. May be he feels like he'll lose business to Kansas City, which, by 2012, is expected to have Google-installed internet connections that are 100 times faster than the national average. Kansas city which changed its name to Google is just 60 miles from Topeka city.

Probably the mayor Bill Bunten is a technophobe or somewhere alike as for him internet is just used to read mails that too rarely as he still prefers telephone. He also said how does it matter if one takes 10 sec rather than 1 sec to access an information. With this step, of course the city has drawn the attention of search giant and it has won the contest of Google to get the fastest internet connection in the city kicking out several other cities in the race.

It all happened April 2010, when the city got its new name to get Google's attention and as per Bunten it was a move too good for PR as the ciry websites which used to get 4000 hits per week got 20000 hits in one day. Just be renaming the city to Google, the city has got a lot of attention both from the world and Google.
