After a long halt, the fate of Web bookmarking service Delicious has been decided as Yahoo is selling the service to YouTube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen as a part of their new Internet company, AVOS. Though, financial terms of this deal are yet to be disclosed but the deal is finalized to take place in July this year.
As founders of the largest online video platform, they are expected to run and improve Delicious going forward. Yahoo top officials said that there is not a strategic fit at Yahoo for Delicious and they feel AVOS will be an ideal home for the service.
The main reason behind this deal is that the bookmarking site had a steady decline in traffic over the last seven months and Yahoo is no more interested in running the service. Delicious was launched in 2003 with a target of wide fanbase which is ending up to a cult fanbase somehow.
In March, the site saw its first increase in unique visits since July 2010, when around 567000 unique users visited Delicious in March, up from 504000 in February. Yahoo will continue to operate the service until July 2011 before it will get officially transferred to AVOS.
