IBM heading towards advancements in Quantum Computing

Quantum Computing -  a well known topic during one's academia, which has by far no real time implementation and have always remained a topic of research. But now, IBM has decided to jump into this area of computing, which until now, been primarily the province of studies and analysis as IBM is now into the quest to build a quantum computer

You can imagine the power of quantum computing by analyzing the fact that a computer that took advantage of the oddities of quantum physics could solve in seconds certain problems that would occupy present day computers for billions of years. But for now, it is impossible to build such a computer because the bits of information it would need for the calculations fall apart before a calculation can be completed. This, so far, has been the primary huddle in the design of such computers.

Last Tuesday, IBM researchers presented an experimental results that they said put them close to solving this problem, both by lengthening the lifetime of the quantum bits of information and by quickening the pace of computation.

If the research being done by IBM researchers goes as expected, we would be able to achieve the world of computing which was supposed to be a dream few years back and was expected to be achieved in next 50 years or so. As per IBM scientists, we can expect the quantum computing enabled computers in approx 15 years compared to earlier 50 years, which is like bringing up the technology one generation earlier.
