Public debut of the first flying car at NY auto show

The first ever flying car, which was developed a few months back by Massachusettes-based company Terrafugia, is now ready to make its first public appearance at the New York International Auto show. The 2012 New York International Auto Show will be held from April 6 through the 15th. It was also mentioned in the announcement that the Transition(flying car) to be ready for sale by the end of the year. For those who are interested in buying one, Transition is expected to be priced around USD 279,000 and 100s of the aircraft/car have already been booked.

Terrafugia COO Anna Mracek Dietrich said the company selected the New York auto show for the car's public debut since it is a venue from which we can show the first practical street-legal airplane to the world while meeting the people who will be part of its commercial success in the years to come. New York is the perfect place to accomplish all of this.

Terrafugia is an aerospace company with a bunch of innovators. It was founded by pilots and engineers from the Massachusettes Institute of Technology.

Their amazing product the flying car, technically called TRA (Transition Roadable Aircraft), has got foldable wings which tuck in when it is on the road and gets converted into a flying machine within 30 seconds. With a full tank, the car can fly for 460 miles at the speed of 110 miles per hour.

In the show, the company is expected to present the car's latest production prototype as well as share details of the future plans for the flying car. The public will get up-close and personal with the vehicle, witness wing-folding demonstrations and meet some of the staff behind the design.
